Secure App Switcher

Last updated: May 22, 2026

When a user presses the home button or switches between apps, the operating system takes a snapshot of the current screen and displays it in the recent apps view. The Secure App Switcher replaces that snapshot with a safe placeholder, preventing your app's content from being visible to anyone who opens the recent apps screen.

This is especially important for apps that display sensitive information such as account details, medical records, financial data, or private messages.

How it works

When the user moves your app to the background, instead of showing the actual screen content, the app displays either a solid background color with your logo, or a custom background image. The real content is hidden until the user returns to the app.

Appearance Options

Choose how the secure screen looks when the app is in the switcher view.

Option 1 — Background Color with Logo

Displays a solid background color with your logo centered on screen. This is the cleanest and most branded option.

Background Color

Set the background color for both Light and Dark themes.

  • Light Mode default: #ffffff
  • Dark Mode default: #000000

Logo

Upload the logo that appears in the center of the secure screen.

  • Accepted formats: JPG, JPEG, PNG
  • Maximum file size: 2 MB
  • Saved dimensions: 600 × 600 px
  • Tip: Use a PNG with a transparent background so the logo looks clean on any background color.

Option 2 — Static Background Image

Displays a full-screen image instead of a color and logo combination. Use this when you want a custom-designed placeholder — for example, a branded lock screen or a blurred version of your UI.

  • Accepted formats: JPG, JPEG, PNG
  • Maximum file size: 2 MB
  • Saved dimensions: 1080 × 1920 px
  • Tip: Use a vertically oriented (portrait) image for the best fit across different device screen sizes.

When to use this

The Secure App Switcher is recommended for any app where users may view private or sensitive content. Common use cases include:

  • Banking and finance apps
  • Healthcare and medical record apps
  • Private messaging or communication apps
  • E-commerce apps showing order history or payment details
  • Business apps with confidential data
